The PlayStation Network is down for many users across the world.

Customers trying to use core multiplayer functions are finding themselves unable to access the network, meaning that they can't play games or use other functions of the PSN.

This was confirmed by the official PSN site, who said that issues are affecting the PS4, PS3, and PS Vita platforms.

The folks at PlayStation are currently working to get the network back online.

A message from PlayStation Support reads: "You may have some difficulty signing in or creating an account on PlayStation Network. Our engineers are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible, and we thank you for your patience.

"You may have some difficulty streaming PlayStation Now games. Our engineers are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible."

It's not clear how long this issue is going to last, or what exactly caused the outage. In fact, it is often quite difficult to predict how long services will be unavailable for as estimates are rarely given.

This is simply because PlayStation may not currently be aware of how long it will take to fix - or in fact what the problem actually is.

Reports are flooding in from PSN users now, so hopefully Sony will be able to ascertain what the issue is fairly soon.

For now, however, it looks as if all core PlayStation consoles are affected.

Naturally, this news hasn't gone down well online. A lot of people are using the error message that they're receiving when they try to fire up the PlayStation.

That code, in case you're wondering, is WS-37403-7.

One person wrote: "I've come home to discover an error (WS-37403-7) when I log into PSN (on my PS4). I've looked this up on the PlayStation website and it apparently doesn't exist?!? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!"

Another added: "Hopped on ps4 to watch some Netflix and I see this bitch pop up "WS-37403-7" over here thinking I got banned for something but nah ps4 just wack af."

A third said: "Me: 'A few days off work, I'mma fire up the PS4 tonight.' Sony: 'LOL WS-37403-7.'"

Either way, we'll keep you as up to date as we can with information about when it is back online.

Let's hope that PlayStation can get its act together pretty quickly. This must be really PSN people off.
