Hogwarts Legacy fans seriously disappointed as new update about sequel is shared

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO and President of Streaming and Games J.B. Perrette teased the new update at an event.

Hogwarts Legacy fans have been left seriously disappointed after an underwhelming update.

The first game was released just over a year ago, and has been hugely popular with fans.

The game launched last year.

It sees players become students enrolled at the famed magical school and going on a ‘dangerous journey to uncover a hidden truth of the wizarding world’.

Hogwarts Legacy faced a couple of issues during its development because it was held back by last-gen consoles.

But, despite any problems and negative critique, its revenue reached a whopping $1 billion (£793 million) within three months, and by the beginning of this year had sold 24 million copies globally.

But fans have been left gutted by a recent update regarding Hogwarts Legacy 2 and Warner Bros. games in general.

At a recent Morgan Stanley event. Warner Bros. Discovery CEO and President of Streaming and Games J.B. Perrette spoke about the company's strategy.

As reported by WCCFtech, people think that Warner Bros wants to further invest in live service, despite the negative reviews surrounding Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

A live service game refers to one that sees a constant stream of new content, added after the game has been launched.

While acknowledging Hogwarts Legacy, Perrette explained: “That’s a great business when you have a hit like (Hogwarts Legacy). It makes the year look amazing.

“Unfortunately, we also have disappointments — we just released Suicide Squad this quarter, which was not as strong. It just makes it very volatile.

"Rather than just launching a one-and-done console game, how do we develop a game around, for example, Hogwarts Legacy or Harry Potter, that is a live service where people can live and work and build and play in that world on an ongoing basis?"

People aren't happy about a recent update.

People have been left fuming at the thought of the sequel being live service, with one writing on X: "Hogwarts Legacy 2 Could Be a Live-Service Game. @wbgames THIS IS NOT WHAT THE FANS WANT."

While another said: "Let's just ignore the massive success of Hogwarts Legacy, a single-player game and double down on live service games. When their most recent live service game sadly flopped critically and commercially???"

And a third added: "Hogwarts Legacy was the best selling game of 2023, Suicide Squad has barely 500 players, flopped badly... Warner Bros: 'We think we need to focus on live service games more, and less on single player experiences.' You can't make this s**t up."
