YouTube sensation Jake Paul has built a social media empire on the back of his outrageous stunts, but who is he, what is he famous for, and why do we all care so much now?

The 24-year-old creator and younger brother of Logan Paul is one of YouTube's most recognised and controversial names.

Paul first began posting videos on Vine when he was 16, but transitioned to YouTube following his firing from the Disney Channel surrounding his infamous house parties.

Since then, his social media channels have gone from strength to strength, with Paul now boasting more than 20m subscribers on YouTube, with more than six billion views.

In June, his older brother Logan sensationally fought and lost against Floyd Mayweather Jr in a much-hyped exhibition fight.

And in their press conference, Jake interrupted the press scrum to talk some trash to the 44-year-old boxing legend - but it didn't end well.

The pair went back and forth, with Mayweather suggesting he'd beat both brothers on the same night.

A fight then broke out when Jake, who recently knocked out Ben Askren in his third professional fight, swiped Mayweather's hat - resulting in a huge brawl with Mayweather threatening to kill the 24-year-old.

It goes without saying that Paul is one of the most famous stars on the internet right now - but what else do we know about him?

Who is Jake Paul?

Jake Paul is an American YouTube star and actor who rose to fame after building a huge following on the Vine video app.

By the time Twitter axed the app in October 2016, the vlogger had amassed 5.3m followers and an extraordinary 2bn plays.

Paul then turned to YouTube, where 20.4m subscribers watch his content.

As of today, though, Paul has devoted his attention to boxing and currently boasts a professional record of 3-0.

His older brother Logan is also trying to make a name for himself in the sport.

During Logan's recent press conference with Floyd Mayweather, Jake swiped Mayweather's cap from his head and attempted to make off with it, shouting, "Got your hat".

Mayweather could be heard threatening to kill Jake Paul and accusing the 24-year-old of being disrespectful.

How old is Jake Paul?

The online sensation seems to have been around for decades, given the multiple reinventions he's gone through, but Jake Paul is just 24-years-old.

Paul was born in Cleveland, Ohio on January 17, 1997.

Jake Paul may be hitting the headlines as a professional boxer, but he made his fortune a long way from the ring.

Having been in the public eye since the age of 17, he has made a small fortune in a little over six years, with multiple endorsements over social media - especially aimed towards his 15.4m followers on Instagram.

While his initial income was his YouTube channel, sponsorship deals, and his own marketing company 'Team 10', his boxing career will increase his net worth even further.

Paul appears to have spent his enormous wealth on property and fast cars having lived in a $7m mansion in California until earlier this year.

In a bold statement, the social media personality has also argued that he is "among the top five highest earners in boxing," according to The Mirror.

His income from boxing fights fluctuates between $1m and $10m, with fights against former NBA star Nate Robinson and fellow YouTuber AnEsonGib raking in the dollar.

And Paul would have earned at least that sum again from his clash with former MMA specialist Ben Askren - who he sensationally knocked out in the first round.

A date and location for the fight will also be announced at that time.

The proposed showdown between Paul and Woodley is set to headline a major fight card on Showtime.

Woodley hasn't fought since his submission defeat to Vicente Luque at UFC 260 back in March.

Earlier this year, Tana took to Instagram and said: "A year ago today we were divorcing."

Why did Jake Paul leave the Disney Channel?

In July of 2017, Paul released a statement on Twitter saying that he had "outgrown" the Disney Channel and was leaving Bizaardvark.

Apologising to his fans for the "crazy news", he described his time with the network as a "dream come true", but said it was time to move forward with his career.

Amid speculation that the star had been axed, due to his off-screen behaviour, Disney said that his departure was mutual.
