Adele has cancelled the last two shows of her world tour, due to take place this weekend, after damaging her vocal cords.

Adele was due to perform at Wembley Stadium tonight and tomorrow, as part of a four-day run at the venue. However, after struggling through last night's performance the singer has made the decision to cancel, leaving her 'devastated'.

In a long post to Twitter the 29-year-old wrote: "I don't even know how to start this. The last two nights at Wembley have been the biggest and best shows of my life. To come home to such a response after a long away do something I never I could pull off but did has blown me away.

"However, I've struggled vocally both nights. I had to push a lot harder than I normally do."

She went on to describe how she had to constantly clear her throat and couldn't 'open up'. After paying a trip to her throat doctor, the star was told she had damaged her vocal cords, leaving her with no option but to cancel the last two dates.

"You know I would not make this decision lightly," she continued.

"I have done 121 shows and I two left, two left!!! And they are two gigantic shows! Who the fuck cancels a show at Wembley Stadium?!"

She ends the note saying: "I'm sorry. I love you, I'm so sorry, please forgive me x"

Fans who have tickets for the concert have taken to social media to share their upset, others wished her a speedy recovery:

It's not yet known if Adele will reschedule the dates, but given that they were the last two nights, she may choose to issue refunds instead.
