When Ed Sheeran revealed he had to postpone several dates on his Asian tour he received warm messages telling him to rest up but he also copped flak from fans who were upset that they wouldn't be able to see him perform in Taipei, Osaka, Seoul, Tokyo and Hong Kong.

That's annoying for anyone who had paid good money for a ticket and might have taken the time off work. However, the difficult decision Ed made to delay those performances was done because of some pretty frightening news.

He's suffered his injuries after a cycling accident. For anyone who's broken or fractured a bone, it can be an excruciating experience. But Ed has told The Jonathan Ross Show that when the accident happened he was definitely in pain, before shrugging it off and cycling onto the pub to carry on with his day.

The 26-year-old said on the chat show: "Went home, went to sleep and then woke up at five o'clock in the morning in a lot of pain. And then went to the hospital.

"I tried to say I'll carry on doing the shows but they said if I put any more stress on it, I might not be able to play [guitar] again so it's good to be sensible."

He says doctors will revaluate the injury after four weeks and assess how long his recovery will take.

It's not the first time he's badly injured himself; check out how he burnt his foot while travelling through Iceland.

Sheeran added: "I do a one-man show so me not having my arms is half of the show, so I've had to postpone a couple of shows which sucks. It's actually the first time I've ever cancelled shows."

The Shape of You singer posted a message to his millions of fans on Instagram, saying: "A visit to my doctors confirmed fractures in my right wrist and left elbow that will leave me unable to perform live concerts for the immediate future."

He has a bunch of other concert dates lined up for the rest of the year which continue into 2018, including the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, Australia, the UAE and New Zealand. Once he completes the Asia Pacific, he'll loop back to the UK and Europe for more performances until August.

Sheeran has previously said he'd never do a show with a backing band, as he's well known for building every beat and sound with his guitar, voice and looping pedal. He told the BBC: "I don't feel like there's anything interesting or new about seeing a singer-songwriter with a band behind them.

"I don't feel like if I suddenly got a band, everyone would go, 'Wow!'.

"I actually feel it'd take away from me."
