Eminem Explains Why He Turned To Beyoncé For 'Walk On Water'

In an interview with a radio station, Em said that he felt Beyoncé could relate to the song's theme coping with the pressures of fame.

It's been a week or two now since Eminem dropped his new single 'Walk on Water' which sees him collaborating with none other than Beyoncé.

'Walk on Water' came out on 10 November and is the lead single from his upcoming ninth studio album, Revival. Given the importance of the song, we expected Em to pull out all the stops, and so he did.

However, his collaboration with Queen Bey is still a little unusual, and now Eminem has outlined just how long he's been waiting to work with the pop megastar.

Em explained during a recent interview for his uncut hip-hop radio station Shade 45 why he thought that Beyoncé would be a good fit for 'Walk on Water', which discusses the pressures of fame.

"First of all, Beyoncé is amazing!" Eminem told the radio station. "It's been on my wish list for a long time. But I never really had a song that I felt like would be right to present to her. So, I was kinda' waitin'.

"Then me and Paul [Rosenberg, Em's music manager] kicked the idea around after I finished it, you know. And based off what it was about, I felt like she probably could relate to this, too.

"Beyoncé's always...everything she does is so perfect. But, the pressures behind that too...for her to do it so perfect, you know, I felt like she could probably relate to that.

"'Cuz I told her, I said, 'I never seen you make a mistake before, ever'. Like, performance-wise, everything. Every song she puts out, every album, it's so calculated and precise. And everything's always so perfect."

It's easy to see why Eminem was drawn to Beyonce for 'Walk on Water' then, and her voice definitely makes the track even more of a classic.

People had even been hoping to see the pair perform the song together this past weekend, as Eminem made a guest appearance on Saturday Night Live alongside host Chance the Rapper.

Unfortunately that dream didn't come true as Beyonce's part was replaced by the singer-songwriter Skylar Grey, as it was at the 2017 MTV EMAs just last week. Guess that Beyoncé had a lot on her plate.

Along with 'Walk on Water', Eminem and Grey also performed a medley of Marshall Mathers LP classic 'Stan' and 'Love the Way You Lie', which the pair co-wrote on Alex da Kid.

If Revival has more collaborations like 'Walk on Water', Em might be sitting on a pretty perfect record himself.
