Eminem Hits Back At "Easily Frightened" Fans After Bonnaroo Gunshot Controversy

Eminem has hit back at critics of his set at Bonnaroo - which included gunshot sounds - with a message calling them "easily frightened"

Eminem's performance at the Firefly Festival in Delaware took an, ahem, interesting twist last night as he released a statement aimed at his own fans.

"If you are easily frightened by loud noises or offended by explicit lyrics you shouldn't be here," read the message, which was displayed in white letters on a background across the large screens either side of the stage.

Eminem is known for his provocative lyrics and themes. We can all remember getting the third degree off the staff in WH Smiths while trying to buy his "Explicit Content - Parental Advisory" albums back in the day.

This message, however, is thought to refer to an incident recently at last week's Bonnaroo Festival in Tennessee, where the use of sound effects in his performance caused some in the audience to think that a gun was being fired.

Fans were panicked by the presumed gun shots, which came during a performance of the song 'Kill You'.

The use of gun shot sound effects is controversial after the mass shooting in Las Vegas last year, where gunman Stephen Paddock opened fire on a crowd of people attending the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival and killed 58 people.

Eminem's spokesperson released a statement after Bonnaroo that read: "Contrary to inaccurate reports, Eminem does not use gunshot sound effects during his live show.

"The effect used by Eminem in his set at Bonnaroo was a pyrotechnic concussion which creates a loud boom. He has used this effect - as have hundreds of other artists - in his live show for over 10 years, including previous U.S. festival dates, without complaint."

Fans were quick to take to social media to display their outrage at the presumed gun noises after Bonnaroo.
One fan wrote: "Honestly, fuck Eminem. Added gunshots to his set. Had to leave. So disgusting and distasteful. Shame on you."

"I was having a good time at Eminem's set then he played a realistic gunshot noise. the whole crowd ducked and I've never felt more traumatised and ready to panic. completely inappropriate," added another.

A third wrote: "The gunshot sound at Eminem was no joke. we were sitting waiting at Bon Iver and the entire crowd around us literally ducked down at the sound reaction. my sister and I sat there and waited to hear screams in case we needed to run. it was horrifying and not ok." (sic)

It looks like this is something that is going to continue to cause anger among his fans.
