For all that we've heard about Eminem's daughter Hailie Scott over his 20+ years as an artist, the legendary rapper has done well to keep her private life out of the public eye.

It turns out that Hailie turns 22 on quite an awkward day for birthdays - Christmas Day - and has taken to Instagram to celebrate the occasion.

Earlier today Hailie posted a photo of herself posing sat down on a red sofa along with the caption 'Happy early birthday to me'. Wonder if her dad has ever played a gig at her parties.

On his earlier records Eminem had a habit of airing his family's dirty laundry in public, rapping regularly about his ex-wife Kim and expressing his love for Hailie.

Now on his latest album Revival, Marshall has opened up about his regrets about exposing Hailie and her mother to the spotlight against her will.

Rapping directly to his daughter on the song 'Castle', Em speaks from the perspective of his darkest hour in 2007, when he overdosed on methadone.

"I've said your name but always tried to hide your face / This game is crazy, I wanted to claim my love for you, but damn/I never knew it'd be like this/If I did I wouldn't have done it," he raps.

He then adds: "You ain't asked for none of this shit, now you're being punished? Things that should've been private with me and your mother is public / I can't stomach / They can take this fame back / I don't want it I'll put out this last album / Then I'm done with it."

Just a few of the songs in which Eminem has addressed his family over the years include 'Kim' on The Marshall Mathers LP, 'Hailie's Song' on The Eminem Show and 'Mockingbird' on Encore.

Despite being in the minds of so many listeners of her father's music, and his own doubts about mentioning her name, Hailie seems to have turned out just fine.

Who knows? Maybe one day Hailie will release her own story about growing up with her world-famous dad. Now that would be an interesting read.
