Musician Miley Cyrus has spoken out after she was groped and sexually assaulted by a fan whilst in Barcelona.

A video of the incident appeared on Twitter afterwards that showed Cyrus walking through the Spanish city surrounded by a throng of fans and alongside her husband, actor Liam Hemsworth.

A man can be seen reaching out and grabbing the singer by the hair before pulling her in for a kiss against her will.

After some initial confusion, Hemsworth then attempts to protect her whilst her security intervenes.

Cyrus then used her various social media accounts to speak out about the issue of consent and victim blaming, sharing the video of the incident to highlight her own experience.

She wrote: "She can be wearing what she wants. She can be a virgin. She can be sleeping with five different people.

"She can be with her husband. She can be with her girlfriend. She can be naked."

"She CAN'T be grabbed without her consent."

The 26-year-old singer then concluded her message with the hashtag #DontFuckWithMyFreedom - a reference to a lyric from one of her new songs, entitled 'Mother's Daughter'.

She also then called out several people on social media who had moved to blame her for the incident, suggesting - wrongly, of course - that she was in some way responsible for the behaviour of the man who attacked her.

Cyrus shared a screenshot of a comment from one person that said: "You wanted to be 'sexy', what did you expect?"

Later on, the 'Wrecking Ball' singer reiterated her point - "Don't fuck with my freedom" - and also added another hashtag, #stillnotaskingforit to further express her point.

She's right too.

Cyrus recently released her new EP, entitled 'She Is Coming' last week, and also stars in an episode of the latest series of Black Mirror.

In the episode, called 'Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too' the show looks at the theme of exploitation in the music industry. Cyrus plays Ashley O, a pop star who has her consciousness exported into a range of toy robots.

Naturally - because this is an episode of Black Mirror - things go drastically awry, and pretty quickly, too.

Cyrus recently told The Guardian: "I think it's an important story that needs to be told, such a realistic take on what it's like working in the music industry. It really portrays the overt exploitation of artists and that numbers usually eclipse the creative most of the time."
