Annie, are you OK?

A mum has made her and her 14-year old daughter homeless because she refuses to give up on her quest to prove that Michael Jackson's 'Smooth Criminal' is about her.

Appearing on Dr Phil in the US, Annie, a former model and mother of three, told the host how she believes that the song was written about her and how she refuses to work because she should be entitled to compensation.

Take a look here...

Annie, who was in a domestically violent relationship at the time the song was released, said: "I believe I am 'Annie' from Michael Jackson's song 'Smooth Criminal'.

"I was in an abusive relationship, on the night that I was being abused I became Annie from 'Smooth Criminal'."

She goes on to say that one night she was hit, or 'struck down' as she puts it, by her partner before she ran into a bedroom: "When all this was happening I saw a limousine outside the window.

"I believe it could have been Michael Jackson in that limousine. I know that Michael Jackson had family that lived in the area. 'Annie, are you OK?' Why do you think he said that? Because he wanted to know if I was OK."

She doesn't explain how Jackson would have known her name, but she does say that she looked into it and Jackson did have a car similar to the one she saw and he was in the area at that time.

Her eldest daughter Akeeya went on the show to plead with her mum to stop pursuing the claim, which has led to her getting in touch with producer Quincy Jones to demand compensation.

Akeeya told the host: "My mum does not work because she believes she's entitled to the rights of 'Smooth Criminal'.

"I am livid. I want my mother to stop trying to cash in on the rights to this song and get a job and support her and my little sister." She then added that her mum was 'delusional'.

Annie admitted that the situation had caused 'friction' between the pair but still seemed in no hurry to drop it.

So, who was Annie?

According to Matt Forger, who was a sound/audio engineer for Jackson and worked on the album Bad, the Annie in the song was actually named after a Resuscitation Annie doll that he spotted in the studio and pointed out to Jackson.

He told Dr Phil: "When we were in the studio working, I noticed there was a green fibre glass case in the corner, so one day I asked him why it was there, and he said, 'Oh that's Annie'.

"Because when they teach CPR they have you address the CPR mannequin and that's where the name Annie comes from."

Resuscitation Annie dolls are used around the world to teach valuable life-saving skills. 'Annie' is actually based on the death mask of an unidentified lady who drowned in the river Seine in the 1880s.

Good pub quiz fact, that.
