Emily Ratajkowski has taken a stand against critics who claimed she was guilty of 'fat-shaming' her friend in a recent social media post.

The model had shared a photograph of her and a mate catching some rays on the beach, while drinking a bottle of beer.

But some of her Instagram followers were quick to slam the 27-year-old for allegedly trying to 'humiliate' her pal because she has a different body type to her.

However, the American has now hit back, reposting the photo to her Instagram stories, with the caption: "I love my girl's body and her and I both think she looks great here and that this is a very cute pic of us getting severe sunburns.

"I'm proud she wears my suits. Different bodies are beautiful and I hope y'all learn that soon."

She also repeated the line in the comments section of the original post, responding to a troll.

The model hit back at trolls who criticised her for posting the photo.

Since she shared the pic it has received more than 5,000 comments and liked by more than 860,000 people.

At the time it was originally posted, one critic wrote: "Why would she subject her friend to this humiliation and online bullying by posting this?"

While another added: "Oh please. She knew exactly what she was doing when she posted this photo. She has the better body, she knows she does (but pretends she doesn't) and she's happy about that."

But there were also many of her fans who supported her decision and have called out the trolls for their hurtful comments.

One follower wrote: "Can't believe anyone is referring to her friend as fat! Compared to Emily we're all fat I guess."

Followers have come out and backed the American, calling trolls 'disgusting' for their comments.

A second fan then said: "Cheers to both of you for showing the world that women look amazing in all shapes and sizes!"

While another put: "These comments are disgusting. Most of you have probably never seen what the person on the left looks like and remain to judge her because she doesn't look like Emily. The human race always does something to let me down."

Another added: "Stop saying her friend is not beautiful and stop saying Emily shouldn't have posted that because its not 'nice for her friend'. her friend obviously agreed with her posting it and she should have because there's no shame in being a woman and being a woman means being beautiful."
