Kenny Baker, the actor who played R2-D2 in the original Star Wars trilogy, and the prequels, has died aged 83.

After suffering from lung problems for the last few years, Kenny had been bound to a wheelchair in the lead up to his death. He was found dead by his nephew today.

"It was expected, but it's sad nonetheless. He had a very long and fulfilled life," Kenny's niece Abigail told the Guardian. "He brought lots of happiness to people and we'll be celebrating the fact that he was well loved throughout the world. We're all very proud of what he achieved in his lifetime."

Standing a 3ft 8in tall, the actor also appeared in The Goodies, Time Bandits and Flash Gordon.

RIP.
