Bradley Wiggins became the most decorated British Olympian of all-time by winning his eighth gold medal in the Rio Games' cycling team pursuit, achieving a new world record time in the process.

But whilst he's only had his medal for less than 24 hours, Wiggins has been forced to admit that he's lost the latest addition to his collection, with fans speculating he enjoyed a rather heavy night on the tiles.

Appearing on the BBC's coverage of the Games on Saturday evening, Wiggins was presented alongside several other successful British Olympians, all of whom were showing off their medals, but Wiggins' medal was suspiciously missing, prompting host Claire Balding to ask where it was.

"I've lost it" he replied with a cheeky grin.

Shocked, Balding continued with the segment before concluding with a piece of advice for Wiggins: "I hope you find your gold medal again or otherwise that's going to be going for an awful lot on eBay".

Wiggins, 36, now has an official tally of five golds, one silver and two bronzes, surpassing fellow cyclist Sir Chris Hoy's tally of seven.

Speaking to the BBC in the immediate aftermath of his historic win, Wiggins hinted at the celebratory night to come, saying: "It was gold or nothing. I'll be hungover tomorrow.

"I'm trying to soak it all up. It was a horrible race to be in. It's over in a flash.

"It's a relief. Eighteen months ago there were doubts about whether I could come back and do this."

It must be nice to have so many Olympic medals that you can just lose one and not be too bothered, eh? Waking up having lost one of the most valuable and revered prizes in all of sport? Now, that's a pretty bad hangover!
