John Cena has taken his fight out of the wrestling ring and into the courtroom as he bites back over a lawsuit with automotive giants Ford.
The wrestling megastar has found himself at the centre of a legal battle after the car manufacturer accused him of prematurely selling a limited run car which they claim he was contractually obliged to keep for two years.
Cena was one of only 1,000 lucky people, handpicked out of countless celebrities and car enthusiasts, given the chance to buy the limited edition, 647 horsepower, 3.5L EcoBoost V6 GT vehicle.
Ford allege that Cena "unfairly made a large profit from the unauthorised resale flip of the vehicle, and Ford has suffered additional damages and losses, including, but not limited to, loss of brand value, ambassador activity and customer goodwill due to the improper sale."
The lawsuit goes on to say: "In his application, Mr. Cena portrayed himself as an enthusiast of high-end automobiles, as well as the Ford brand, by attaching to his application, photographs, video clips, and web posts of himself in, and promoting, high-end cars.
"Mr. Cena is a known car collector, and referenced numerous limited edition and high-end vehicles that he owned and collected at the time of his application, including a model year 2006 Ford GT," it adds.
However, despite the legal advances, Cena has made his position perfectly clear, telling the company to 'take their lawsuit and shove it'.
TMZ report that Cena claims he did nothing wrong, as the final contract he signed failed to mention a 24-month no-resale clause.
Cena says the issue is Ford's problem for not putting the sale restriction in the final binding contract and that he shouldn't be punished as a result of their mistake.
Now, in a new court document filed in district court in Michigan, the wrestler is asking a judge to throw out the case against him.
The wrestler has been stepping away from the ring of late and following in the footsteps of Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson with a number of movie roles. Now he says he's keen to show people that there's another side to him.
"I am a 40-year-old adult - there's a man behind the hand," he told Digital Spy. "I wouldn't be where I'm at if it wasn't for this [the hand] and I have great perspective of that. I wouldn't be where I'm at if it wasn't for those things. But it's always a challenge to let people know that there's a little more to me."
