For anyone who tuned in to the NBA All-Star game over the weekend and was left confused by Fergie's pre-match appearance, allow us to fill you in. That was supposed to be the American national anthem. Here, take another listen and see if you can spot it.

The former Black-Eyed Peas singer left spectators somewhere between dumbstruck and amused as she belted out her own rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner.

The performance certainly ruffled a few feathers both at the game and online, with some celebs in the crowd struggling to contain their laughter as Fergie emptied her lungs into the microphone.

Among those cracking up at the questionable interpretation were Chance The Rapper, Jimmy Kimmel and towering basketball player Draymond Green, who could be seen gawping in disbelief before bursting into laughter.

Those who had witnessed the event from the comfort of their own homes seemed equally bewildered, with many taking to their keyboards - as they so often do - to make some witty remarks about the whole thing on Twitter.

"Wait a minute, aren't we in Los Angeles the home of Hollywood and this is the best they can do for singing the national anthem, #Fergie? Really? Maybe the worst rendition I've ever heard other than Carl Lewis and Roseann!" raged one commenter.

"Meanwhile back in the states... I leave for a couple of days and y'all lose your muthafucking mind!! Why did this happen? Not everyone supposed to do this y'all! You might as well should have ask me to sing. Wtf?!" said another.

Even Rosanne Barr, who famously ruined the national anthem herself back in 1990, chimed in to have a pop.

However, the most key points were made by viewers who seemed to have been left scarred by a certain Black Eyed Peas hit from way back in 2005, with one person tweeting: "I think a rendition of 'My Humps' would have been more patriotic than this."

Another Twitter user went into more troubling detail, adding: "I saw some people defending Fergie. I don't even need to listen to her because I remember 'My Humps'. I was there. I had it in my head once and I don't ever forgive for an assault like that."

The home of the brave, indeed.
