Your Name Could Get You A Free Copy Of 'FIFA 18'

Or 'reasonable variants' of a familiar name...

September is the second-most-favoured month for football fans. August may hold the crown, with it being the start of the new season after a two-and-a-half-month layoff, but the ninth month of the year brings a new installment of video game series FIFA.

And this year, alongside the star teams, players and leagues, play mode 'The Journey' also returns after its debut in FIFA 17. If only it was free, eh LADs? Well, read on...

Regular players will know it's not without its frustrations - last-minute losses and videos unveiling ultimate team members have seen plenty of controllers thrown in anger. And one particular thing that rarely brings a smile is the cost.

At around £50 ($67.25) a pop for many new video games, they're certainly not cheap. And then there's the additional costs - Ultimate Team packs, plus beer and pizza when playing with your mates, who definitely ain't going to pay you back when you score an extra-time winner after their keeper didn't throw it where they asked it to.

So as we said, if you could find a way to get it for free, then you'd surely be up for it, right?

GAME stores are going to give away FIFA 18 for a grand total of £0 ($0, weirdly) - IF you share your name with one of the game's stars.

And no, we're not talking cover star Cristiano Ronaldo, or the Argentinian brilliance of Leo Messi. Not even the Harry Kanes of this world get a look in.

Instead, we turn our attentions to the upcoming star Alex Hunter.

OK, so he's not a household name, in fact he's not even real, but he's the star of The Journey, a play mode which they added to the game on FIFA 17.

Anyone with the name Alex Hunter, Alexander Hunter, Alexandra Hunter or, as GAME describes, 'reasonable variants of the name', can get their free copy with proof of identity.

They're requested to email [email protected] with their full name, address, and a scanned copy of their ID (passport, driving licence or birth certificate).

Once they've done that, they'll be directed to their nearest branch so that they can pick up their free copy.

It's a very short time deal as well, so any thoughts to get your name changed, aren't going to happen. The offer runs from 29 September to 1 October.

The Journey was, to EA Sports, a chance for you to live the dream of every grassroots footballer.

In their own description, EA Sports said: "The Journey lets you live your story on and off the pitch as the Premier League's next rising star, Alex Hunter.

"Experience brand new worlds, all while navigating your way through the emotional highs and lows."

For FIFA 18, it's upgraded. Hunter now returns 'as he goes global in his biggest season yet'.

Characters he'll meet along the way include: Cristiano Ronaldo, Antoine Griezmann, Dele Alli, Thomas Müller, Thierry Henry and the unexpected figure of NBA star James Harden.

The description continues: "FC Bayern, Atlético Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain all want football's hottest prospect on their side - where will you take Hunter next?"

And who says we get too involved in these games?
