"A lot has happened in the last eight years, with Trump, Twitter, and my Nan getting her front bush trimmed at the age of 96."

For almost two decades, we've always been able to rely on Bolton comedian Peter Kay for a good laugh. Now the Lancashire LAD has announced he will be going on his new stand-up tour for the first time in eight years, starting in spring 2018.

The British comedian announced the 26-date tour in a video on social media this morning, with tickets due to go on sale this Sunday 19 November at 10am. 'Ave it!

A statement released by Kay said that he was excited to be returning to stand-up comedy, calling it his "most successful hobby".

Peter said: "I really miss it. I know how lucky I am to be making television series and have really loved these past few years working on Car Share but I miss doing stand-up."

"As terrifying as it is, when it works there's nothing more fun and exciting," he added. "Plus, a lot has happened in the last eight years, with Trump, Twitter and my Nan getting her front bush trimmed at the age of 96. I can't wait to get back up on stage."

Funny-man Kay's tour will take place from April 2018 to March 2019 and will see him performing in cities across the UK and Ireland.

The tour will start in Birmingham's Genting Arena on Sat 21 April 2018 and end at Liverpool's Echo Arena in March 2019 - not far from home for him then.

A tweet from Kay's Twitter account said: "Peter Kay Arena Tour announcement. Tickets go on sale 10am Sunday 19 November. Go to http://www.peterkay.co.uk for tickets #peterkaytour."

Kay's last tour in 2010 played to over 1.2 million people and still officially ranks with the Guinness Book of World Records as the biggest selling comedy tour of all time. Not bad at all for a guy who used to work in a toilet roll factory.

Kay first came to public attention with his video show Live At The Top of The Tower in 2000.

He then soared to TV stardom after writing and starring in the cult sitcom Phoenix Nights between 2001-2002 and the spin-off series Max and Paddy's Road to Nowhere in 2004.

In recent years he has been starring in Peter Kay's Car Share, a sitcom set entirely in a car on the drive to and from work.

After this announcement of Kay's new tour, there's only one question to ask... Garlic bread?!
