It's quite believable that this stuff could get made up on the cobbles of Corrie with all the gossiping and chit chat.

But today it was reported that Coronation Street's Bill Roache had fallen victim to a sick death hoax.

This afternoon a fake news website claimed the 85-year-old had died and alleged his son, Linus, had confirmed the report in a statement, according to The Sun.

It incorrectly published: "Son Linus Roache said in a statement that Bill died of heart failure on the night of Wednesday."

However the acting legend, who plays Ken Barlow in the hit ITV soap, is alive and well. So sit back and relax.

A representative told The Sun Online they would not be commenting on the 'fake news'.

Bill returned to filming the popular soap last month following the sad loss of his daughter, Vanya, 50, who passed away from liver failure on March 2.

The soap icon, who has starred in Coronation Street since the first episode in 1960, was devastated by the loss, and took ten days off to recuperate and come to terms with the tragedy.

He's now back filming again, to the delight of his co-stars who welcomed him back.

A Coronation Street insider said: "Bill made it clear he wanted to be back at work, he's a total professional even after nearly 60 years on the show.

"But everyone was keen to make sure he is well looked after, and give him all the support they can to help with his transition back.

"The executives have told him to take a break whenever, but it was a lovely first day back on set because the storyline was really heart-warming with the new baby on set

"He seems ok, and loved working with his new on-screen granddaughter."

Fans are taking to Twitter, relieved by the news.

One wrote: "Best News of today Ken Barlow aka Bill Roache is still very much alive!! After fake death news".

Another added: "Here we go again, I wish ppl would do a bit of research b4 sharing #fakenews The latest Caleb ment to be dead is poor #Billroache aka #KenBarlow"

Another twigged before we could warn anyone else, saying: "There's a story doing the rounds that Bill Roache aka Ken Barlow of #corrie has died - not true. This story is on a website - breaking-cnn .com - which has been linked to death hoaxes before."

We're just happy to hear that one of the longest standing members is well.
