'Out Of Control' Pensioner Fined After Running Naked Through Hotel With Scissors

'Out Of Control' Pensioner Fined After Running Naked Through Hotel With Scissors

Not your regular Bonnie and Clyde

We've all had a boozy night that got out of control; usually one person ends up with something phallic drawn on their forehead in permanent marker. And then you get a kebab and the booze shame and hangover hits you the next day. "I did WHAT?" you screech when bombarded with images on your group Whatsapp chat. But hopefully no one ends up in jail.

Usually these crazy antics stay in our (relative) youth. But two pensioners have bucked the trend. That's right, two drunk and disorderly OAPs wreaked havoc in the Highlands earlier this year.

In February Robert and Ruth Fergus went on holiday to the Macdonald Loch Rannoch in Perthshire, but it was far from a relaxing trip. It descended into madness. Nudity, conspiracy theories and everyone running away from the hotel in fear.

After an incredibly boozy night, 72-year-old Robert woke up in the early hours of the morning, and proceeded to run naked through the public reception hotel, wielding a pair of scissors he used to cut the communication cables at the reception desk, smashed a pane of glass and was caught behind the wheels of his BMW trying to drink drive.

Meanwhile, earlier that night, 69-year-old Ruth had kicked off the evening by threatening to shoot a member of staff after "reacting badly to alcohol".

Guests were woken up at 1.45am to find a drunk and abusive Ruth in the hallway. As the guests informed reception, her husband showed up with no clothes on and started shouting at the staff.

Fiscal Deputy Michael Sweeney said: "Both accused were acting as if they were out of control. He was observed to have a pair of scissors.

"Mrs Fergus said: 'I'm going to get a gun and shoot you,' at (staff member) Miss Titkova."

"On seeing the scissors, Miss Titkova shouted at the other staff and guests to run. They saw Mr Fergus pick up a sign and smash a glass pane in the door with it."

Robert ran through the foyer, telling witnesses he would kill them. Staff and guests ran to the nearby village of Kinlock Rannoch.

Both Robert and Ruth Fergus had consumed copious amounts of alcohol that night.

After chasing out the staff and guests, the rowdy couple left the premises, too, and flagged down a passing police. They accused hotel staff of attacking them.

Robert gave a positive breath test but told officers: "I had no intention of driving but I was forced to. Our lives were in danger from hotel staff."

The hotel's CCTV footage proved his story to be false.

The couple were fined £4,100 at Perth Sheriff Court.

Robert, a Troon native, admitted to behaving in a threatening and abusive manner towards four staff members, wilfully destroying property, and drink driving on February 4th. He has been ordered to pay £800 in compensation to the hotel.

My holidays seem very tame in comparison.
