There's Now A Follow-Up To M&M's Iconic 20-Year-Old Christmas Advert

There's Now A Follow-Up To M&M's Iconic 20-Year-Old Christmas Advert

20 years ago we saw Santa faint with shock at meeting two talking M&M's - and now we get to find out what happened next

Sequels. It's no secret that they have a habit of letting us down. For example: Jaws: The Revenge - shit. Speed 2: Cruise Control - shit. Titanic 2 (no, seriously) - shit. However, in the world of viral Christmas adverts, one brand has not only bettered its original commercial, it has completely blown it out of the water.

We're talking, of course, about M&M's.

For those of you struggling to remember the origins of the story, 20 years ago -when CGI animation was nowhere near as advanced as it is today - our mates Red and Yellow startled Santa in the middle of delivering his presents, causing him to pass out from shock.

But what happened afterwards? Did Santa wake up in time to deliver the gifts? Did he eat Red and Yellow? Well, up until now it was anyone's guess.

Now the beloved chocolate brand has cleared things up by releasing a much more in-depth follow-up to the now two-decade-old Christmas advert.

The ad begins exactly where its predecessor left off, with a view through a house window on a wintery night, as Santa and Red both crash to the floor in surprise at having bumped into each other.

With both his mate and Father Christmas KO'd on the deck, it's up to clumsy Yellow to deliver the gifts and save Christmas.

The strong-willed M&M takes to the skies in Santa's sleigh, flinging presents out left, right and centre in rapid succession.

However, after the rounds are over and Santa and Red have come around, North Pole Mission Control alerts the confused Mr Claus that all his presents have been delivered to the wrong houses.

Cue a montage of people opening hilariously inappropriate gifts and scratching their heads in puzzlement.

The bumbling Yellow is just about to enter moping mode, asking his long-time friend, "Did I ruin Christmas, Red?" Just then something amazing happens.

People begin to venture out onto the street to find the rightful recipients of the muddled gifts, making for a truly heart-warming and festive scene.

After taking a look around at people coming out of their homes into the snow to exchange presents with one another, Red replies to him: "Actually, buddy, I think you made it even better."
