Man Buys An Old Laptop And Gets A Massive Surprise When He Turns It On

Amazing.

There's not really a lot to expect when buying an old laptop. At most you'd maybe stumble across the previous owner's Internet history, discovering the weird shit they were into.

On the flip-side you may find something beneficial to yourself, like The Sims being fully installed with the disc still in the drive, taking you back to the bliss of creating your own family and home, when the only stresses in life were the virtual oven catching fire and drowning in the swimming pool.

Imgur user chrisman01 bought an old IBM Thinkpad 365XD for $5, yet had little hope for it to work properly. When he turned it on he was greeted with the wonderful, nostalgia-inducing sight and sound of the 'Windows 98' welcome screen.

Originally bought in 1995, the laptop came with Windows 95 as standard, so had been given the update to '98 as a treat.

However, that wasn't the only surprise the device had. It was loaded with a Star Trek-inspired user interface called LCARS. It's largely useless because it has no mouse control and is operated by the F keys and number keys.

Going through the system, the buyer says that there aren't any personal images, but a lot of Star Trek wallpapers.

However, if you navigate to programs, you find a lot of Windows 98 and DOS Freeware.

In among any Treky's dream were a load of timeless games like PacMan, Tetris, Solitaire, Chess and Crossword. Sadly there was no sign of 3D Pinball, but we'll let that slide.

There was, for some reason, a full Australian slang dictionary on the laptop.

Some of the slang terms are obvious, well known ones, but others could come in handy if you are planning to go over to Australia and fit right in with the locals. Unfortunately, there's no news on whether chrisman01 is actually planning on doing that.

In the slang glossary, 'Bastard' is listed as a term of endearment, which sums up Aussies nicely, and explains exactly why we love them.

There's got to be a lot of Star Trek fans out there that'd pay a lot more than $5 for this now.

I spent the same amount pounds for a meal deal and a sausage roll today; he's most definitely won.
