There's that classic scenario when a family pet dies before its time, and the parents quickly try to get a replica before the kids find out. Depending on their age, the kids sometimes notice whether Rex is missing his trademark spot above his eye and then the fountain of tears erupt.
But one mum has revealed that her family could have done that trick on her and she would have no clue what had happened. They could have even got a completely new breed of dog and she wouldn't notice.
Jeff Squires' mum sent him a text asking whether their beloved dog Duey was home. Not being home himself, he couldn't confirm or deny Duey's whereabouts. But his mum then sent a picture of a dog with white fur saying: "Ok - I saw a picture on FB that said these two dogs were picked up by the warden in Grafton and it looked like him - what do you think?"

While that type of message might alarm some people - Jeff couldn't believe his eyes when the picture his mum sent looked nothing like their Duey.
Jeff replied to his mum saying: "That's not Duey. Duey's face is brown."

You might think that Jeff's mum might have had a tiny mind slip, but wait until you see what their dog actually looks like:

Not only is Duey's face brown, but he's also a completely different breed of dog. Jeff's post on Twitter has gone viral, with more than 318 thousand likes and 108 thousand retweets.
Jeff told LADbible: "I didn't really think anything of it at the time, I just kind of made that face that Jim from The Office makes when Michael Scott does something dumb.

"The attention on Twitter was surprising.
"I just thought it would get around 100 likes, had no idea that it would explode to the level that I have reporters from different countries speaking to me about it."
Hopefully when Jeff's mum gets home he can give her a proper rundown of what the family pet looks like. As one person on Twitter mentioned, let's hope that Jeff or anyone else in the family doesn't go missing or else his mum could struggle to find them.
