For many retirees, there comes a point they decide they want to dedicate some of their free to giving back to the community. But why get behind the till at a busy charity shop or think of weird crafts to entertain cub scouts when you could just fall asleep in a pile of cats? Every day.
This was the epiphany of 75-year-old retired Spanish teacher, Terry Lauerman, who about six months ago strolled into Safe Haven Pet Sanctuary in Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA. He came with the express intent of grooming cats and nothing was going to stop him... except his regular uncontrollable urges to have a little catnap.
Founder of the sanctuary, Elizabeth Feldhausen, told 9GAG: "He just walked in and started brushing, he never asked to be a volunteer. So eventually we told him he was an official volunteer and had him fill out our volunteer form.

"[He sleeps for] about an hour, then he'll wake up and switch cats.
"He said, [the brushing is] as great of an experience for him, as it is for them."
Staff at the sanctuary were so enamoured with their new dozy team member, they decided to dedicate a post to him on their Facebook page and Terry became an unwitting viral sensation.
The post read: "We are so lucky to have a human like Terry. Terry just came along one day and introduced himself. He said he'd like to brush cats. Eventually it became everyday. He brushes all of the cats, and can tell you about all of their likes and dislikes. He also accidentally falls asleep most days. We don't mind - cats need this! Terry is a wonderful volunteer."
They may be lucky to have a human like Terry, but it seems Terry is pretty lucky to live a life like Terry's. What makes the guy even more of a LAD is the fact that he has his very own grooming brush, which he came armed with on his first day.

Speaking to Upworthy, Terry said: "I just bought the brush at a local department store, but it's a nice brush.
"I've always liked cats, and I didn't have cats as an adult. But when I retired I decided to do something fun and this place emerged.
"I had been volunteering at other shelters, but this place is special because there's no cages and the cats can feel taken care of in a friendly environment."
His new found web stardom has prompted the shelter to launch a fundraiser in his name, which has already raised thousands of dollars.

So what you waiting for sleepy retirees, pick up a brush and head down to your nearest animal shelter, where you can fall asleep in the middle of the day and make a difference.
