Or is it just rubbish?

The 21st century has seen humanity make leaps and bounds in areas like technology, engineering and space travel at a faster rate than any previous era ever.

In the year 2000, Bluetooth was brought into the mainstream as mobile phones and gadgets became interconnected and is now a staple part of our daily life.

In 2001, the AbioCor Artificial Heart was used for the first time to replace a human heart, powering itself and truly showing off the advancements in medicine in the 21st century.

In 2003, Skype transformed the way people communicate across borders, bringing the price of talking to loved ones many hundreds of miles away very low indeed.

In 2004, Facebook was born. You don't need me to tell you how that has changed our lives.

In 2005, YouTube was born. See above.

In 2007, Apple's iPhone became the first touch screen smartphone to be adopted into the mass market and spawned an entire industry worth hundreds of billions in today's money.

In 2008, Spotify completely blitzed the music streaming market by offering a free and legal alternative to downloading from sources like Limewire and giving your computer a death sentence.

In 2012, Google began testing driverless cars, the car of the future, that would take mankind on a journey into the future without the dangers of human error causing crashes.

What I'm trying to say is, humanity has come a long way in a very short space of time. The barriers we thought were impossible to break down are being smashed through at never-before-seen rates. It really is quite a special time for human advancement we're living in.

But all of that, everything Google, Apple, Facebook, YouTube and countless others have achieved pales in comparison to what is going on on the Bin Lid Stands Facebook page. It makes a human's ability to harness fire look like a walk in the park.

Essentially, this is a page where people who are skilled enough can share images of their wheelie bin balancing on its lid and be judged by fellow bin lid standers.

As the pinned post in the group states, the biggest part of this community, which now has more than 40,000 likes, is that judges can give a score out of ten and also consider where improvements could be made.

This is serious business and takes a hell of a lot of time and dedication to do well.

We'll take Glen Woolnough's recent effort as our example. Three bins standing and one that's fallen over due to either carelessness or the wet conditions.

And as you will now see, the judges are as savage as they come...

Bin Lid Standing isn't for everyone. It takes time, dedication, patience and most of all the lightest of touches. And if you can't hack the criticism, don't even bother trying.

The members of this group are ready to tear you apart if they can, and don't stand for anything less than perfection.

If Apple, Google, Samsung and Facebook really want to take the advancement of humanity further, they'll be wise to invest in Bin Lid Standing.

This is where the future of humanity lies.
