Woman Takes Dog To Furry Convention Thinking It's For Actual Animals

Woman Takes Dog To Furry Convention Thinking It's For Actual Animals

Yikes!

It seems everyone isn't so hip to the whole 'furry' phenomenon.

One woman recently turned up to a convention dedicated to the craze with her therapy dog only to realise everything wasn't as it seemed.

She'd brought her mutt Link along to a room full of humans dressed as animals.

Cheryl Wassus' blunder was since broadcast on Twitter by her son, Kenny.

"My mum thought furrycon was a pet event and volunteered w [sic] our therapy dog," he wrote on the social media site.

Cheryl explained to New York Magazine that she is a contributor to Pets for Vets, a charity that pairs dogs with soldiers.

She simply presumed Motor City Furry Con would involve real animals rather than fake ones after it'd selected Pets for Vets as its charity.

Prior to attending the event in Detroit, Michigan, Cheryl was none the wiser about furries.

While it may have been awkward for her personally, Link had a bloody great time,

"I learned so much about this whole new culture of people who get together and dress up in furry costumes.

"I had no idea I was walking into Furry Con. It was a little embarrassing at first because Link was just a little curious why people were wearing tails, so he was doing some serious tail-sniffing and checking out people.

"I saw little pieces of humanity I'd never seen before."

Cheryl described learning about the new culture, saying: "They decide what character they want to be, and then they spend lots of money having these costumes made. And then, they all get together for these events. Similar people. Similar interests."

The only furry she'd seen before then was at Easter, when somebody might have put on the giant Easter-bunny costumed at a local egg hunt she'd attended. Other than that, she was a rookie surrounded by veterans.

Could she ever see herself becoming a furry in the future? She said: "No, I don't think so. No. You know, you get a little older, a little menopausal, and being in that many layers and layers of fur. No need to be overheating. I'm good.'
