Constipation can bring anyone down. That urge to shit, but on the toilet, nothing happens.

Then you think of the alternatives. Naturally, laxatives are the first that spring to mind. Not unless you are Mr Liu from China. He went for a different option.

Surgeons were shocked to find he has inserted a half-metre long (19 inch) eel up his backside to try and cure him of his pains.

Last week, the factory worker was rushed to hospital after complaining of stomach pains. The doctors found the eel in his belly, along with faeces and food residue.

According to a report on Guangdong Television, Liu had gone to hospital complaining of constipation before his own actions, and was given an initial diagnosis of bowel obstruction. It was then recommended that he stayed in hospital for further treatment.

Liu refused to do this, and decided to resort to an ancient method of treating constipation by putting an eel up his backside in an attempt to clear the blockage.

The eel caused extreme stomach ache and he was once again brought back into hospital.

Doctors then examined his abdominal area and saw a hole in the duodenum area (that's the first bit of the small intestine) - which is when they spotted the eel.

The Asian swamp eel, measuring 19 inches, and weighing about 250g, was found with a head of three to five centimetres wide.

Dr Zhao, who removed the eel, said at first that the patient remained tight-lipped about how it got there. "He said the eel went into his anus by mistake," he said. "But after the surgery, he told us that he actually put an eel inside the anus himself."

The eel, we are sad to report, passed away, and Liu is now recovering in hospital.

Weirdly, in the same region, a couple of weeks back, LADbible reported on a man who was found with two fish in his intestines.

He'd put them up there after a heavy drinking sesh, and doctors had to remove the fish, which had broken through the wall of his bowel and left him close to septic shock from infection.
