Postal Services In Canada Have Been Stopped Due To Vicious Crow

It's even drawn blood.

Usually, when a postman is too scared to deliver letters to your house it's because of the dog - not because of a bird.

Canuck the crow has managed to disrupt post deliveries so much in Canada that the service has been suspended in parts of East Vancouver.

Canada Post have said that they won't deliver to certain addresses 'until such time the hazard no longer exists'.

The sharp-beaked jet black bird has been known to be so vicious that he's managed to draw blood, and steal shiny objects - including a knife.

The bird rides the SkyTrain in the city, and can be easily identified by the red tag on his leg - with many joking he's been electronically tagged because of his behaviour.

A spokeswoman for the Canada Post, Darcia Kmet, told the BBC: "Unfortunately, our employees have been attacked and injured by a crow in that Vancouver neighbourhood while attempting to deliver the mail.

"Regular mail delivery was suspended to three homes due to it being unsafe for our employees.

"We are monitoring the situation when delivering the mail to other residents on the street. If our employees believe it is safe to deliver to those three addresses, they do so."

The bird is that much a celebrity, it has its own Facebook page. Canuck and I was set up by Shawn Bergman who chronicles the bird's adventures.

He lives in one of the properties that has been affected by the halted mail, and wrote on the Facebook group: "With the neighbours getting upset, there have been both subtle and not so subtle threats against Canuck's safety."

The response from Canada Post noted their 'safeguarding' of employees.

The pesky bird has even disrupted other services to the public, including a CSI team. Canuck swooped in and stole a blade that had allegedly just been used to threaten police officers.

When officers gave chase, the bird eventually did drop the vital piece of evidence.
