A genius in their own right IMO.

Have you spotted a purple bird popping up in your social media timeline?

Such is the pace of social media memes or fads that this purple bird is probably universally known now in a way it might not have been two days ago.

Trash Dove is a Facebook sticker. No caption, no context, just a purple dove that head bangs ceaselessly.

It's the design of American artist Syd Weiler.

The Florida-based illustrator first drew the bird in September last year before creating a set of FB stickers in January 2017.

Trash Dove is versatile. Like I said, it's largely seen in it's head-thrashing form, but it can also be seen laying comatose or just standing still.

It was with the help of a popular Thai Facebook page that catapulted the animal to stardom, when it appeared in a video dance-off with a cartoon cat a week and a bit ago.

Within days, it had notched up 4 million views.

Weiler consequently thanked the fans for making her creation viral.

"Hello Thailand, thank you all so so much for your support. I'm really glad that you like the stickers."

What does it mean? I have no idea. I think that's the point, the beauty of it. It doesn't mean fuck all. Or alternatively, it can meaning everything. It's open to interpretation, just like art.

Weiler has no answers. In her own words via a Facebook status in October 2016, she said: "In case you didn't know, I made some fantastically dumb iOS stickers, you can spam your friends and family with them!"

What does purple bird mean to you?
