A cha-cha-cha is more impressive to him than a 40-yard goal.

Yer Da only reads the back pages of newspapers and has downloaded the Sky Sports News app so he can contribute to conversations in the pub while thinking about Strictly Come Dancing, a study has claimed.

New research found that Das across the UK are more anxious about whether or not they set the Sky+ box to record the BBC dancing show than what score their team is winning, drawing or losing by.

"Who gives a toss about Laura Whitmore performing a double grand jeté, into an en pointe, finished off by a pirouette, scoring 8.5," 47-year-old Dan Mead said. "Mourinho? Worst midfielder there's ever been for Manchester City, mate! Can't kick it in the net, can he?"

One wife, who requested to be left anonymous, claimed that her husband used to be interested in the Premier League, but began to make excuses to his mates down the pub to watch Strictly on a Saturday after he was impressed by Scott Mills' tango in 2014.

"There'd be the petty excuses, like 'the garden needs a good mow'," she said. "He just didn't want to be late home in case he missed the beginning of the show. Me and my daughter were set to go to watch Strictly last year, but she couldn't make it. He seemed pretty keen to fill her place, but kept saying he was only 'doing it for me'."

According to reports, Sky Sports saw an increase in downloads of its mobile app around the beginning of September, a few days prior to Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman returning to host the coveted dancing programme.

Declan Manger, an avid Liverpool supporter who inherits his love of football from his dad, is worried that the influx of trash reality game shows is taking his father away from him.

"I asked him what he thought of Phillipe Coutinho the other day and he told me: "You'll have to look in my tool box son, I'm not sure if I have that tool'," Declan said. "He says he hates Strictly Come Dancing but I'm yet to notice him miss an episode this series. I'm sure he was visibly gutted about Will Young leaving. We've even caught him ringing in to vote."

"If he starts jibbing off the footy for I'm a Celeb I'm getting off. He thinks a Klopp is a dance move these days."
