Zlatan Ibrahimović Is Going To Honour His Bet With David Beckham

Zlatan Ibrahimović Is Going To Honour His Bet With David Beckham

It's not exactly a horrible forfeit, to be fair

How are you feeling today then? Still struggling? Well, console yourself with the knowledge that even though the whole country might be in a hungover stupor today, England are through to the semi-finals of a World Cup for the first time since 1990.

Yes, after beating Sweden 2 - 0 yesterday in a match that was disturbingly comfortable given that it was an England match at a World Cup, they are through to face Croatia on Wednesday.

One person who woke up this morning with a heavier dose of regret was Zlatan Ibrahimović.

You see, yesterday he made a bet with David Beckham. He said that if Sweden won, Becks had to take him to Ikea and buy him anything he wanted, but if England won he had to attend an England game at Wembley, wear an England shirt, and eat fish and chips at half time.

Well, given that Sweden lost in the end, Zlatan has now graciously conceded defeat - for once in his life - and said that he will honour the bet.

I mean, there are worse punishments than having to attend a football game with one of the most recognisable faces on the planet and eating some lovely fish and chips. If only all bets could have a 'forfeit' like that.

In the lead up to the game, Zlatan had said: "Yo @davidbeckham if @england wins I buy you dinner where ever you want in the world, but if @swemnt wins you buy me what ever I want from @ikeasverige ok?"

Becks responded to his former Paris St Germain teammate, upping the ante slightly. He said: "If Sweden win, I will personally take you to Ikea and buy you whatever you need for the new mansion in LA.

"But when England win, I want you to come to watch an England game at Wembley, wearing an England shirt and enjoy fish and chips at half time."

Excellent. The people who run both of their social media accounts could presumably take the rest of the afternoon off at that stage.

Anyway, once the inevitable happened, and England won pretty comfortably in the end, to be fair, Zlatan posted another message that said: "I'm coming. Congrats."

A rare show of humility there from the famously over-confident Swede.

At this point, Wayne Rooney decided to chirp up and said: "How you feeling today mate @Ibra_official? If you need a chat I'm always here"

Both players will have been disappointed not to still be a part of their respective national team's set-up for the game yesterday. The difference is that Zlatan would potentially have improved his side.

Either way, look forward to seeing Zlatan scranning a fish supper at Wembley for one or other meaningless qualifier later this year.

Seriously folks, enjoy the moments while they last, because they'll not last forever.
