Monday night was terrible for English football fans. Like some modern Twilight Zone episode, we got outplayed by a nation so small it has an app to make sure you don't accidentally bonk one of your family.

But the following analysis made matters slightly more bearable. Yes, everyone from Danny Baker to Alan Shearer had their say on the shitshow and no-one was holding back. In particular, Julia Hartley-Brewer, who called Woy's boys 'overpaid nonces.'

Look, Wilshere was dire, and so was Kane. His set pieces were white noise to my eyes and made me want to pole vault into a black hole. But I wouldn't accuse them of sexual offences against kids, you know.

Well, apparently, neither would Brewer. The journalist and broadcaster cleared up the controversial comment by insisting she intended to say 'ponces.'

I like that. It's a bit similar to saying 'Sorry for calling you a nobhead, Darren. I actually meant to say dickhead.'
