Builder's Erect Lampost In Front Of New House Completely Blocking Entrance

Builder's Erect Lampost In Front Of New House Completely Blocking Entrance

Rarely is "You Had One Job" actually applicable, but...these builders in Wigan have built a house with a lamppost blocking the front gate

You put up the walls, slap on a roof, get plumbing and electricity sorted, put the windows in, fit the toilets... building a house isn't easy, for sure, but the basic tasks of it are simple.

Simple, right? Tell that to these builders in Wigan, in the north west of England, who seem to have house-building down pat - except that they've built the house next to a lamppost, and put the front gate right where the lamppost is.

Rarely is the meme phrase "you had one job" actually applicable, but in this case - you had one bloody job.

"The lamppost has been there since the house was built. It looks really sloppy," said Eric Fleming, 55, a local resident and master of the understatement. "I heard it's going to be moved. Apparently it's bureaucracy that's stopped them moving it from the site."

Yeah, it's the bureaucracy that's the problem for sure.

"I was a bit shocked at first," added Eric's wife, Kathryn, who shares a similar flair for subtlety as her husband.

The house, amazingly, is actually on the market - despite, y'know, not really being accessible via the front door - for an asking price of £219,000 ($282,400).

Pros include the three bedrooms, the nice local schools, transport links and abundant local amenities. Cons include that you can't actually go inside without wiggling yourself around a lamppost.

It's on Manchester Road in Leigh, and, as someone who spent a decent part of their childhood in the East Lancashire region, while I'm duty bound to joke that you'd have to pay me 200 grand to live in Leigh, it isn't actually that bad.

Well, the house in question is terrible, what with the LAMPPOST IN THE FRONT GATE but Leigh isn't that bad.

You can be in Manchester town centre in about half-an-hour, it has a cinema and a Frankie & Benny's and a Tesco.

You'll be happy in the knowledge that you live in the hometown of both singer Georgie Fame and England football World Cup winner Roger Hunt, so if you're from the 1960s, there's that.

Oh, and the rugby team used to be good but aren't anymore. The football team used to be rubbish but now don't exist.

So move to Leigh - where you can have a lamppost instead of a front gate. To think I gave up on the chance of being an estate agent for this LADbible lark...
