More A and E than Swayze

Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey's lift is undisputedly iconic. Andy and Sharon Price, less so.

The engaged couple may have had passion in their eyes (as the song goes), but this incident meant they were soon seeing little more than stars.

They wanted to create the infamous big lift from the film Dirty Dancing, ahead of their big day.

The pair, messing around in the back garden of their local pub, were soon rushed to A and E at the local hospital as Andy was left unconscious and Sharon was left severely winded.

Having watched the 80s cult classic over 30 times, they were keen to make sure they got it perfect for their wedding.

Just like Jennifer Grey running towards the arms of Patrick Swayze, Sharon, 52, bounded towards Andy, 51, only for them to collide, leaving them both in a pile on the floor.

When watching family members realised that they weren't messing around, 999 were swiftly called.

Sharon said: "I have always loved Dirty Dancing - it is one of my all-time favourite films.

"We were in the beer garden and my niece and nephew were messing around, trying to do the lift.

" I looked at Andy and suggested that we have it as our first dance at our wedding.

"We immediately set about trying to recreate that iconic moment. But it's fair to say it didn't go to plan."

Paramedics were called to the scene, cutting off Andy's t-shirt and switched on the blue lights to quickly get him to Southmead Hospital in Bristol.

Sharon said the doctors laughed - unsurprisingly - when she told them how the incident had occurred.

"We are OK now but Andy has a bruised back and neck and my back still hurts," she added.

"All I could hear was the paramedics saying he was going in and out of consciousness. Our feet were still entwined and they had to separate us.

"We were both badly bruised but we're alright now."

The couple, who have been engaged since Christmas, have been together for 18 months after meeting at their workplace. They plan to tie the knot next year.

The couple have now revised their plans for their first dance. Sharon said: "I think we're going to go for a slow one."
