One guy from Leeds has been left with a few questions after getting more than he bargained for in a Twitter exchange with Fulham footballer Sone Aluko.
It started off so innocently for self-described poker player/grinder Chris Rhodes, tweeting the Nigerian international: ":joy: my GF just been in the same gym this morning as your lot, she's just picked me up saying footballers get paid to do nothing @FulhamFC"
Striker Sone spied that his club was tagged and replied, throwing the cat among the pigeons: "Uh oh, you might want to ask your girlfriend about her true whereabouts this morning :eyes:. Wasn't in a gym with me. Team day off :joy: #trustissues"
Old mate Rhodesy continued, but ended up digging himself into an even bigger hole, by asking: "Were you not in the @HiltonLeedsCity gym this morning at 9am?? Hmmmm."
Sone, a gent to the last, was apologetic, tweeting: "I actually want to say I was there at this point but we left Leeds last night. Didn't even stay in that hotel. Frosty convo with babes 2night".
Twitter immediately exploded. One user said: "She was getting a workout but not at the gym! :joy:." Meanwhile, another said in reference to Britain's biggest boxers: "Where was big @anthonyfjoshua last night. Apparently he has previous just ask @amirkingkhan."
Unsurprisingly, the Twitter exchange has gone viral, with Sone's first tweet picking up nearly two-and-a-half thousand retweets and close to five thousand likes at the time of writing.
As you might imagine, Chris Rhodes hasn't delved back into his social media account this morning, probably because he's enjoying a heart-to-heart with his illustrious other half about where in fact she might have been yesterday morning - or at least, who she was with. Of course, there's nothing to prove anyone has misbehaved here.
As for Sone, he's still thrashing out a new deal with his current employers, Fulham, with rumours swirling that he might be on the move. The Championship club have rejected offers from 'multiple clubs', including fellow promotion chasers Reading.
Sone has been at the club since the start of last season, when he joined from Hull City. He previously turned out for Rangers and Aberdeen, having come through the ranks at Birmingham City.
