Mum Mistakes Son's Method Of Helping Ailing Bee For 'Crack Spoon'

Jordan's mum texted him to accuse him of having a 'crack spoon' - when he'd just left some sugar in a spoon in his garden to help a bee

If you can count on mums to do anything, it's to worry about their kids.

When you return home to stagger through the door and race up the stairs for a quick vom, you can put money on your mum having been up all night, waiting to hear your key in the door. Gone to a music festival? She'll be frantic with stress about how many drugs will be there.

For one LAD, however, maternal fretting about substances went to another level, after his mum accused him of having a 'crack spoon' - when he'd simply left out some sugar to help rescue an ailing bee.

Jordan Ridehalgh was away at a festival when he received a cryptic message from his mother Lisa, asking simply "What's this in the garden?" with an accompanying photo of a small spoon.

Presumably laughing uproariously to himself, he replied: "Hahaha, was for a bee. He was in the house and wasn't moving so we made him some sugar and water then took him outside."

"Looks like crack to me?" his mum replied, to which Jordan wrote: "Lmaoooo. it will taste like sugar."

"Hmmm. We think not," came the response from Lisa. "We have had a family meeting with Phillip and Jasmin and google crack spoon. Google it, it's the same as your spoon!"

Jordan tried to explain it away, but his mum wasn't having any of it.

"We had been sat having breakfast when we spotted this little bee that was not moving," he said after the event.

"Isobel [his girlfriend] said she had seen this thing where they get a bit of sugar water and put it on a spoon to help them.

"We tried it and it worked, the bee did drink a bit but it was still not moving much.

"So in the end we decided to leave the spoon out there with the bee so that it would have the opportunity to drink more if it wanted.

"Fast forward a week and a half and we've totally forgot that we left the spoon out in the garden."

This doesn't seem like something with too much potential for misunderstanding - it's just a spoon, after all, but his mother managed to make it into a major stress.

"I was away at a festival and my mum and dad came home and were cleaning up the house and encountered this spoon in their back garden.

"Obviously when they discovered this spoon in their garden with some crystalised material on it, they had no idea what it was.

"Between them all they obviously got a bit worried and Googled 'crack spoon' and the picture that came up happened to look just like what they had found.

"So then my mum ended up messaging me basically asking if I had done crack.

"Immediately I knew she was serious because of the way she went about it but I found it funny straight away because of how ridiculous the scenario was.

"I couldn't even tell you how preposterous it is - I've never done anything like that before. But at the time, that's the only thing they thought it could be.

"I think it was just as shocking for them, which what made it even funnier for me."

He continued: "What makes me laugh is picturing their conversation when googling 'crack spoon'. I don't know what was said specifically but it is so funny to think of that going on.

"Spoons are renowned drug paraphernalia so I completely understand why they thought that. If I found that in a garden, drugs would be the first thing I thought of.

"The message exchange lasted about 10 minutes but you can see the gears turn as she sends them, which is quite funny.

"When I told Isobel about it she just couldn't stop laughing, she thought it was so funny.

"We did feel bad for leaving it out there and causing a panic but it we genuinely forgot about it. At least it provided a bit of a laugh and everyone saw the funny side too.

"The good news is that I think it did help the bee and it flew away eventually so it was mission accomplished really.

"It had been in a bad way and wasn't able to move at all so it was nice to help it. But then I imagine crack will get you moving, so that does make sense."

Mum Lisa was embarassed, but admitted that she might have got slightly carried away.

"His dad brought it in from the garden and said 'what's this?' I didn't know but I said I was going to Google it as it looked something suspicious," she said.

"Jordan is lovely and a good lad. He loves going to festivals and I always say to him every time he goes to one to have a good time but don't be taking drugs.

"So that is something I am always saying to him in general and I do have a bit of an over-active imagination, I am like that.

"It's quite funny as I Google 'crack spoon' and the picture that came up did look just like it.

"Me being me, I said I was going to text him.

"I already didn't think it would be the kind of thing he would do but there is always that worry just because it looked so suspicious.

"I do trust him 100 percent, it's just one of those things that mothers do. It is funny though. I'm glad it has made people laugh."
