Vegan lunchbox given to child leaves people seriously divided

Apparently some people don't like the idea of vegans having food to eat

A woman has sparked off a debate after posting a picture of a vegan lunchbox given to her child at a party on social media.

Mum-of-two Emma Lougar was on X, formerly known as Twitter, and shared the food her son had been given at another kid's birthday party.

She wrote that she'd been happy to bring food for him but seemed to be very chuffed that someone had gone the extra mile to put together a vegan-friendly lunchbox for him.

It contained a 'chicken' sandwich, mini 'no' eggs, sweet potato falafel bites and a vegan sausage roll along with a vegan Kit-Kat.

However, in certain corners of the internet it seems as though vegan kids being given food they can eat is something of a faux-pas, as the mum's post kicked off a debate and not everyone was best pleased about it.

Apparently the idea that vegan kids can have something to eat is objectionable.

One commenter said it was 'criminal' for a child to have a vegan diet, while another argued that kids were 'supposed to have things like pizza and ice cream' instead of what was in the lunchbox.

Someone else, who might be taking the idea of a kid getting a meal at a birthday party a bit too seriously, said: "Well done for forcing your oppressive vegan views on a child."

Another agreed that the mum should 'stop forcing your views on your children' and claimed that once her son 'tastes bacon' he would 'resent his mother', which seems like something of a reach.

Several said they thought having a vegan diet was a choice that should wait until adulthood when someone was old enough to decide what they wanted to eat.

Expressions of this idea ranged from people suggesting their opinion on the matter to those attacking the mum as an 'attention seeking narcissist' who 'probably squirts whipped cream straight into their mouth behind closed doors'.

Fortunately most who saw the post were a bit more pleased to see that someone's parents had thought to make a lunchbox for Emma's son.

"If he wanted it, he wanted it. If he didn't he could just throw it in the bin. It's up to him really," said someone else.

Plenty of others said it was absolutely 'lovely' to see that the parents of another kid had thought to include Emma's son and made sure he could have a 'proper lunch' with the other children.

Another mum said it was 'precious and generous' to put the lunchbox together, and someone else expressed 'how incredible and thoughtful such a gesture is to a vegan'.

One woman said she used to be 'the token vegetarian as a child' and at kids' parties she used to just be given 'a bowl of crisps every time'.
