My Chemical Romance singer Gerard Way has paid a heartbreaking tribute to Chester Bennington after revealing he met his wife Lindsey because of Linkin Park.

Speaking to Nerdist, Way said he was left devastated by the tragic and sudden death of the Linkin Park lead singer last week.

He said: "He was actually at my wedding. Not a lot of people were there because we got married super quickly at the end of the tour when half the people had gone home. So, there were literally only 30 or 40 people there, and he was one of them."

My Chemical Romance were part of 2007's Projekt Revolution - a music festival arranged by Linkin Park - and this is where Way met Lindsey, with the pair later tying the knot in an intimate backstage ceremony.

Looking back on Projekt Revolution, he said: "I met my wife. We have an amazing life now and a daughter. My memories of that period and meeting Linds again are tied into Chester and his band."

Bennington's body was found in the home by his housekeeper on 20 July. His death was ruled as a suicide by hanging on Monday by the LA County Coroners Officers.

A spokesperson from the coroner's office said no drugs or note were found near the body, but a half-full bottle of alcohol was in the room.

He had previously been open about battling his demons and his struggles with alcohol addiction, having spent time in rehab.

In 2011 he said: "I don't drink. I choose to be sober now. I have drunk over the last six years, but I just don't want to be that person anymore."

Since his death Linkin Park has set up a website directing fans to organisations that can help, if they needed it, as well as collecting memories and tributes to the singer.

If you or someone you know is struggling with issues like these, don't suffer in silence. Reach out. It's the brave thing to do.
