A DIY Store Has Hired An Air Force Veteran And His Dog

Imagine if one of your co-workers was a dog.

Clay Luthy, a US Air Force veteran, was forced to quit his job as a handyman after he had to undergo five surgeries on his left leg which he was no longer able to bend.

As a result of his disability, Clay has a service dog, Charlotte, who helps him if he can't get up. She also helps to keep him calm, if Clay starts to feel stressed out.

Ten-year-old Charlotte is a Golden Retriever and, although he never intended for her to be a service dog, Clay has come to rely on her.

"I found a way to have a productive life and my prescription is four-legged," he told KIDY.

Sadly, despite being keen to work, he struggled to find employment due to his injuries and the need for Charlotte to always be with him.

However, when he spotted a job at Lowe's home improvement store in Texas, Clay thought it seemed like a good fit. So, he applied and he took Charlotte along with him when he was offered an interview.

After learning that Clay wouldn't be able to accept the job unless they offered Charlotte one, too, the pair were both taken on. She's even got her own little dog-friendly version of the uniform.

Speaking to KIDY, Jay Fellers, Lowe's human resources manager said: "We went through the interview process and Clay and his own merit won the job. And we knew he was going to make a great employee. We just got the benefit of getting Charlotte right along with him."

The pair have gone viral after a lady photographed them hard at work and people around the world have been congratulating Lowe's on their new hires.
