Man Loses Chunk Of His Leg In Shocking Shark Attack

Man Loses Chunk Of His Leg In Shocking Shark Attack

Despite their truly terrifying nature, as well as their huge teeth, some people like to dabble with sharks.

Though they are scary, they're equally fascinating. Throw in the adrenaline you get when you're around them and it becomes an activity that gets thrown on the bucket list.

Obviously, there are blatant dangers you face when diving with the predators, namely getting fucked over by those huge teeth.

Parker Simpson experienced the peril first hand while spear fishing in Key West, Florida when a shark made a beeline for his leg.

In all the usual diving gear stuff, an eight-foot reef shark comes out of nowhere and rips a bite out of his shin, leaving blood to blur the clear water.

"He took a chunk out of me leg," he says in the clip. "Help me, help me now."

Following the bite, the feisty shark begins to circle, threatening to attack again. However, Parker's friend intervened, jamming a gun into its jaw.

"This shark came out of nowhere," Parker said. "He first went at my dive buddy, Justyn, but immediately turned toward me.

"I assumed he was trying to steal the black grouper I was holding. But after I lost the grouper and watched it swim to the bottom, the shark kept coming at us."

He was hauled back on board the boat, where a woman was frantically shouting for a first aid kit.

Luckily, his wounds got sorted on the boat before he was taken to hospital for stitches.

"I would not have made it back to the boat without the help of another strong swimmer and would have bled out had I not been patched up so well," Parker said.

"The shark tore through the skin, fat tissue, muscle, muscle sheath and unfortunately my tibial artery - which caused me to lose more than a litre of blood."

He uploaded the clip to YouTube where people were understandably a bit wary of the water.

If you are fearful of suffering the same fate while in the sea, don't worry, there are gadgets to 'repel' the creatures. Sadly, though, they don't really work.

Zack Davis' mother bought him an anti-shark device for Christmas, but instantly wanted a refund for the appalling job it did - failing to protect her son from having a reported 44 stitches in his arm.

Having surfed for years since he was a kid, the 16-year-old had never had a run-in with any sharks. That makes it even more of a bitch that the first time he wore his new magnetic technology, which is supposed to ward off sharks, he had to go to hospital to be treated for a large bite.

"I felt it hit because my hand was on the sand and I was getting turned by the wave. I felt it grab on for two to three seconds and I came up out the water and it was like I just got bitten," Zack told CBS12.

"It was shocking. It wasn't really painful. Honestly, I wasn't really in pain. I was just like, 'oh my gosh I need to do something with this quick'. So I just took my leash from my board and wrapped it around my arm because I didn't want to lose any blood."

Zack's mum paid $80 for the 'Shark Banz', which straps to your arm like a watch and is advertised to keep sharks away from swimmers by disrupting the electro receptors they use to navigate.

It kind of goes without saying, but... they don't work.
