A have-a-go hero has described the moment he tackled a knife-man threatening to stab a mother in a supermarket car park.

Kevin Taylor, 35, was filling his car with shopping outside a Morrisons in Failsworth, Greater Manchester when he noticed a mum and her daughter shouting at a man who eventually drew a knife on them.

A Brazilian Jiu Jitsu blue belt, Kevin jumped over a car bonnet and man-handled the thug to the ground between two vehicles, snapping his weapon in half.

When police arrived they praised Kevin for his bravery and decision-making.

Kevin's wife, Bernie, who was with him, took a photo of her ex-army medic husband pinning the man to the floor and shared it on Facebook.

"A woman was saying, 'get away from me'. I saw a man following two women," Kevin told the Manchester Evening News.

"I came round the car and he had a knife. He has going at them with a knife. I jumped over the bonnet and hit him.

"Then I got him on the floor. I snapped the knife. I didn't know how I did it."

He added: "Nothing was going through my head at the time. I saw the woman and kids. I was glad I was there.

"It has been overwhelming I didn't expect to get this reaction. I have laughed it off."
