DeLorean has announced that it will release a new model in 2017, pending regulatory approval, following speculations earlier this year.
Unfortunately, it's not a time machine.
However, the new model will pay homage to the original 1976 prototype, which was featured in 1985 Back To The Future. It will be complete with gull-wing doors and an innovative fibreglass chassis and underbody structure, alongside a brushed stainless steel body.
The launch of the DMC-12 is a huge milestone for the company who have until now, had the primary focus to repair and restore existing DeLorean vehicles as opposed to manufacturing new ones.
After adjusting a small horsepower issue, the company is currently examining a number of engine options to give the new and improved model a reading of between 300 and 400 horsepower.
Also, expect the new car's entertainment systems to have improved from the 80s, too, with DMC said to be working with a partner on a new in-car entertainment system to replace the old AM/FM cassette deck. Not like this replica that a superfan of Back To The Future put together.
It all sounds marvelous, so what's the catch? Well, assuming you can afford the $80,000 to $100,000 price tag, there isn't one.
For that rate, it better have heated seats, make my morning coffee and teleport me out of traffic jams.
