Not any boring health reasons.

Cillian Murphy has opened up about ditching vegetarianism after a whopping 15 years of meat-free living.

Known for his unconventional look, when preparing for his role of Tommy Shelby in hit show Peaky Blinders, Cillian decided that to fit the role of a stereotypically tough gangster he would have to start digging in to the steaks again.

"For the first series of Peaky Blinders, they were anxious that I shouldn't look like a skinny Irish fella, and my trainer recommended meat," he told Konbini.

Murphy went on to say it was 'never a moral decision'. In fact, he was veggie because he 'was worried about getting mad cow disease'. Fair.

His relapse meal was none other than a venison steak on a trip to a country house hotel in Ireland for his wife's 40th birthday.

In the interview, Murphy also discussed how the production team on Peaky Blinders helped him to 'toughen up' saying, he'd 'never voluntarily have that haircut', the disconnected undercut.

"That and the hat, the voice, the walk, the fags - it's all an effort to make me look like a tough fucker, which I'm really not," he said, adding that he's 'never even been in a fight'.

Ah. There's a first time for everything.
