The actor who played Anakin Skywalker in the 1999 blockbuster, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, has been diagnosed with schizophrenia.

Jake Lloyd has been in prison since June when he led police officers on a high-speed car chase through South Carolina.

The chase began when officers attempted to flag him down in Charlston, South Carolina. It went on for 25 miles and ended when Lloyd went through a fence and into a wooded area. He collided with several small trees before stopping.

His mother, Lisa, told TMZ that he has now been transferred from a cell to a psychiatric facility. Thankfully, it looks like he is already taking steps in the right direction as Lisa said that she 'can already see an improvement in his personality'.

He was just ten years old when he starred in the Hollywood blockbuster however, he soon quit acting altogether as he claimed his childhood was made a 'living hell'.

Hopefully now he has access to the help he needs.
