Cillian Murphy Tells Us What We Can Expect In The Next 'Peaky Blinders' Season

Exciting.

Much like the anticipation for the return of Game of Thrones, excitement is also building for the comeback of Peaky Blinders.

The last time we were treated to the antics of the Birmingham gangsters was way back in June, for the finale of season three. Now, Cillian Murphy, who plays Thomas Shelby, has got our ears pricked up after giving us a short tease.

Speaking with Today FM, the 40-year-old (as if he's 40) revealed that season four will be a lot more like the first two seasons, returning to its 'roots'.

"In the classic gangster arc, the last season was sort of all about the wealth, the house and all that material stuff," he said. "This season is sort of a return to the roots. That's about as much as I can reveal."

Though it is a really small incite into what's going to occur, it is enough to get you very excited.

Like the seventh season of Game of Thrones, there's no specific release date for the next season of Peaky Blinders, but filming is supposedly going to start in March or April, so we can expect it some time later in the year (hopefully).

Luckily the fourth installment in the series won't be the last, but creator Steven Knight reckons that only one more season will happen after that.

He recently told Radio Times that rather than run the risk of dragging on the saga, five seasons seems like a fair amount.

"Never say never, but we feel that [series] five may be the last," he said. "We don't know for sure. We will see how we feel about it. Peaky is one of those things everybody loves, and the response has been so magnificent on both sides of the Atlantic.

"I have got the end in my mind; whether that happens at the end of five is the question. I want it to end when the first air raid siren sounds in Birmingham.

"It is a story of a family between two world wars. It begins in 1919 when they have just come back from the war and the family's journey is towards legitimacy and respectability and to leave their past behind. The big question of the whole series is this: is that possible?"

Those left worried by this should take solace in the fact Knight is keen to bring the series to the silver screen after the TV series is finished.
