Sony Confirm Playstation 4.5 Is In The Works But Won't Be Announced At E3

Ah... right.

The Electronic Entertainment Expo, better known as E3, is right around the corner but one of the announcements we all expected to be made next week won't actually be made even though it has been confirmed.

Sony have finally admitted what everyone has known for a long time: a Playstation 4.5 is in the works.

The new console, going by any one of PS4.5, PS4K or PS4 Neo, will feature enhanced graphics and support 4k resolution.

Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Andrew House, speaking to the Financial Times, has revealed the console won't be replacing the original PS4 however. He said:

"It is intended to sit alongside and complement the standard PS4. We will be selling both [versions] through the life cycle.

No proper specs for the Neo have been revealed and there is still no word on how much it will actually cost but House did reveal there won't be any Neo-exclusive titles.

"All games will support the standard PS4 and we anticipate all or a very large majority of games will also support the high-end PS4. The consumer is attuned to a different cadence of innovation in technology thanks in great part for the upgrades cadence on mobile phones or PCs.

The only reason I can think of Sony confirming this prior to E3 is that they have something even bigger up their sleeves to reveal. Or they're desperately trying to lower everyone's expectations.

Either way, we now know the PS4 Neo won't be revealed at E3.
