The world lost it's oldest citizen over the weekend: Emma Morano from Italy was 117 and was the only person who lived through the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries.

Emma Morano was born on 29 November 1899 in the Piedmont region of Italy and died at her home in Verbania, northern Italy, reports said.

"She had an extraordinary life, and we will always remember her strength to help us move forward in life," the mayor of Verbania was quoted as saying.

She attributed her longevity to good genes and a diet of three eggs a day - two raw - for 90 years.

She also claimed her longevity was partly down to being single - and rarely ate fruit or vegetables.

She was one of eight children, with five sisters and three brothers, and lived through two World Wars and more than 90 Italian governments.

But now the title has been handed over to Jamaican Violet Brown who was born March 10th, 1900. Jamaica's Prime Minister Andrew Holness tweeted his congratulation:

When Violet previously reached the incredible milestone of 110, she told the Jamican Gleaner: "You know, sometimes I ask myself, 'Am I really 110 years old?' Because I don't feel like 110."

Everyone always asks a very old person what their 'secret' is to a long lasting life.

Well according to Violet - she likes eating fish and mutton, and will sometimes eat cow foot but never pork or chicken.

But the 117-year-old says she also owes her long time on this earth to her faith in serving god following the teaching of the Bible.

Violet used to work as a sugar cane cutter, as well as a maid, but went on to purchased some property and became the owner of the only bread depot in her district. Very savvy.

She is the last person to have lived while Queen Victoria ruled and the centenarian also received a plaque from Queen Elizabeth II when she became the oldest citizen of the Commonwealth.

Now, while Violet claims her lasting life is the result of eating some local delicacies and serving god, some of the world's other extremely old folk have their own tricks for living so long.

Adele Dunlap was born in 1902 in the USA and was once the oldest person living in the country before she died earlier this year. She said she hardly exercised and smoked until her husband had a heart attack. Apparently she also ate whatever she wanted.

The daughter of Ana Maria Vela Rubio, who is Spain's oldest living person at 115-years-old claims her long life is due to being nice and compassionate to people.

Misao Okawa, who held the title of Japan's oldest person at 117 years and 27 days before she died in 2015, told the Japan Times that eating delicious things was her secret.

Right so no exercise, smoking and splurging on food can help?

Fuck you #cleaneating.
