Yesterday, we brought you the devastating news that Jagerbombs were, shock, not good for you in any way. A lethal combination, in the soft sense.

But a new study released this week concerned a legitimate 'lethal combination': alcohol and cocaine.

Researchers at Brown University found that people who abused the two were 2.4 times more likely to kill themselves than other people with suicidal tendencies.

Funded by the National Institutes of Mental Health, the study tracked 874 men and women around the States who had admitted themselves to "one of eight targeted emergency rooms."

The people approached by the researches had either previously attempted suicide or were experiencing suicidal thoughts at the time. And although a big number of those surveyed abused alcohol or drugs like cocaine, marijuana, transquilisers etc, it was those who mixed coke and alcohol who were far more likely to attempt suicide.

Why? Right now, it's not precisely known. Obviously doing cocaine and drinking alcohol can lead to a whole plethora of problems, but why is ranks so high when it comes to influencing suicidal thoughts is essentially a mystery.

Joseph Lee, MD, medical director of the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation Youth Continuum, told VICE: "It's sexy but scientifically inaccurate to leap right into a conclusion like 'these drugs are bad'."

He added: "The takeaway should be that we need further research to better identify high-risk groups," Lee said, "and to understand what is it about these particular people that makes them more likely to use this combination, and in turn what makes them more likely to commit suicide."
