Plans to establish the world's first independent 'space nation' are underway, thanks to a team of scientists, entrepreneurs, lawyers and philosophers.
The plans were announced on 12th October at a live-streamed press conference in Paris where the team revealed it will launch the first of many satellites as early as autumn next year.
The nation will have no physical land but will be made up of a series of satellites with their own laws and regulatory bodies, IFLScience reports.

The leader of the project, Dr Igor Ashurbeyli, who I really want to be my granddad, was quick to point out that although some may view them as crazy, this was not the case, as he went into some detail about what the plans actually entailed.
The team has called the nation Asgardia (Yep, like in Thor) and it will, according to Dr Ashurbeyli, provide 'peace in space and the prevention of Earth's conflicts being transferred into space'.
It will also aim to serve everyone, regardless of who they are or where they came from, which is a rather lovely idea. If you fancy being a citizen of Asgardia (and why wouldn't you?) you can check out the website here.
So, what do you think? You keen on this hippie space nation or nah?
