Last night five American police officers were shot dead by snipers during a Black Lives Matter protest.

The protest in Dallas, Texas, came after two black men, Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, were shot by US police.

Three arrests have been made, with two men and a woman being detained.

According to the Fox4, a suspect told police 'the end is coming' and there are bombs 'across the city'. Dallas is now on lockdown as authorities search for any explosives.

One man, identified as Mark Hughes, had his picture tweeted by police after allegedly being seen attending the protest openly carrying a rifle. He handed himself into police, but was later released without charge.

Police are have reportedly killed a suspect who was involved in a stand-off in an indoor car park, according to the BBC.

Officers also intercepted a car after a person was seen throwing a camouflaged bag into the back. The driver and passenger are being questioned.

Dallas Police Chief David Brown said the shooters 'planned to injure and kill as many law enforcement officers as they could'.

All suspects were believed to have been working together, using rifles to carry out attacks from 'elevated positions'.

11 officers were shot in total.
