It has been confirmed that the mother of the child who fell into a gorilla enclosure at Cincinnati zoo will not be charged.

Michelle Gregg's four-year-old son, Isaiah, fell into the enclosure last month. The horrifying event resulted in 17-year-old gorilla Harambe being shot, as zoo officials feared for the safety of the child.

Following the incident, with a video of it going viral, Michelle and her partner Deonne Dickerson were investigated, but a prosecutor has now confirmed no charges will be brought against them.

Prosecutor Joe Deters told reporters at Hamilton County prosecutor's office in Ohio, that while Gregg was attending to her three other children, her son 'just scampered off'.

According to CBC News, he said: "All witnesses describe a very attentive mother who simply turned her back to take care of another child, and the three-year-old went through the fence, leading into the enclosure.

"That is not heedless indifference in my mind."

Authorities said that their investigation would focus on Gregg's actions leading up to the incident, rather than the operation of the zoo. After social workers from Ohio children's services were sent to make a visit to see Isaiah and his mother, they were left 'impressed' by his environment.
